Dress the Docs
So…what do you get when you have a Pandemic, an amazing group of Soroptimists, a fantastic supportive community and a request from our beloved front line workers? You get a Miracle!
Just over two months ago, around March 20th, 2020, when we all had our lives put on pause from Covid-19, I think we were all a bit frightened and apprehensive. Our regular Soroptimist Programs were put on hold, and many of us were feeling somewhat unfocused and powerless. One of our local doctors reached out to her daughter (one of our beloved Soroptimist Club Members) to say that doctors were in peril of closing their doors to patients as they couldn’t get the Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) needed…specifically gowns.
That’s all it took to get our “Dress the Docs” project going.
Within days we had donated bed sheets, fabric, a pattern, and an army of drivers, cutters, and sewers at the ready. It wasn’t easy coordinating things and answering questions without a training session. But in less than 2 weeks we had over 200 gowns in production. We have now delivered over 280 gowns and completed over 300!
This project was possible because of the generosity, hard work, and love that poured out from everyone involved!
"We're so grateful for the amazing gowns that volunteers have provided for us.
Thank you for all the care and sewing that went into this PPE. The gowns look stunning!"
