Women of Sierra Leone

July 25, 2010 by

42 is the average life expectancy of a woman in Sierra Leone, one of the poorest nations on earth. ’42’ is the name British photojournalist Lee Karen Stow gives to an ongoing photographic project documenting the women of Sierra Leone and their struggles to obtain a better life. Violence against women is common. One woman in eight dies in pregnancy or childbirth. Yet these women demonstrate incredible spirit, resilience, determination and desire to be part of a world of equality and opportunity.
